The words wrang in T.J.s ears and echoed in his soul. His Father had assaulted him with that again and again over and over the years. Nothing T.J. did from the time he was a little boy ever seamed good enough for his stern, perfectionist father. No matter how hard he tried, he could never earn his dad's unqualified approval.
As he grew up, T.J. closed off his spirit to his father. I'll make you sorry for hurting me, and I'm going to cut you off so you can't hurt me anymore.
In time, however, T.J. learned to bless his Dad - though it seamed to bring no change in his Dad's life or attitudes. His Dad asked his son to forgive him for all the ways he had wronged him. His Dad became a believer in Christ and lived out his days as a transformed man, enjoying fellowship with his son.
